At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, United States airmen dropped a nuclear bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, killing 140,000 people.
The Genbaku Dome was the only building left standing near the hypocentre of the bomb’s blast, detonated approximately 2,000 feet above the city.
