Chakravyuh is a two player strategy board game played on a circular chess board that is divided 10 sectors (files) and 4 concentric circles (ranks) with a total of 40 units that are checkered. The game has an added feature of having a rotating 3rd rank.
Each player begins the game with 10 pieces ; 1 king, 1 queen, 1 rook, 1 knight, 1 bishop and 5 pawns.
The objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture.
10 white pieces and 10 black pieces are placed on the board at the beginning of the game as shown in the figure.
GAME RULES:
Circular rows are the ranks and the diametric rows are called the files.

White moves first, then players alternate moves, one piece per turn.

BASIC MOVES:
● The Rook can move along the files any no. of times. It can move along the ranks only in an anti- clockwise direction any no of steps.
● The Bishop can move a max of three steps diagonally in any direction without crossing over the centre of the circle.
● The king can take a single step in any direction, if the spaces are vacant.

● The Knight is permitted to move initially in the following way as shown in the figure. After the initial move, the knight can move in any direction in a ‘L’ pattern. It is also allowed to jump over other pieces.
● The pawn may move forward to the unoccupied unit in front of it on the same file. The pawn may capture the opponent’s piece on a unit diagonally in front of it on an adjacent file by moving to that unit.

SPECIAL MOVES:
The 3rd rank can be rotated by each player on his/ her turn. If the rank is rotated the player must give up a turn and cannot move his/ her piece.
At a time, a player can rotate the 3rd rank along two files only.
