VANINI - Packaging Redesign

Vanini Chocolate
Packaging redesign for Vanini Chocolate, a preexisting brand of imported chocolate from Italy.

The objective of this project was to redesign the packaging of an existing chocolate bar brand. I started by searching for chocolate bar brands that had some kind of problem in their packaging. Vanini, I noticed, had a conflicting message in its apparent selling point. While the chocolate is pridefully made by an Italian family-owned chocolatier and has been for decades, they only boast about its Peruvian sources for cocoa beans. The chocolate is Italian, but the packaging has a Peruvian style.
After going through a number of preliminary designs, I ended up choosing two to implement and mock up. I chose these two because they both fit the brief and improve the original packaging, while showing two routes that could be taken. The first, with "Vanini" in bold colored lettering across a paper band, is more modern feels more expensive. This can be attributed to the delicate illustrations, classic typography, and the use of two different elements (a wrapper and a band) on the chocolate bar.

The other design I followed through with is more reserved and appears to be less expensive than the other. The packaging itself is cheaper, using a sticker instead of a removable paper band. This design meets all the design goals, along with the other design, but offers a lower end option that is simpler and more reserved.
