In The Ends of Utopia, Krishan Kumar said that modern man could consume their own fantasy, and in doing so create utopia. My work aims to explore this act of “Fantasy consuming” and investigate if the result of such an act is actually closer to the creation of further fantasy or Paradise rather than a utopia. As part of capitalism, people can realize their own fantasy using currency, however, we can’t neglect negative effects. It is impossible to be happy forever, so we can’t call fantasy consuming a utopia.

This is ‘fantasy consumer’ second series. 

This work is connected with social media. As social media become more common, people upload “The consuming image” on social media, reflecting their own fantasy of perfection. Also, people communicate through that acting, with the emoticon, and some people have lots of follower and reply. Moreover, that can affect other’s fantasy, and I want to say that it can be “trend”. Social media can be interpreted as personal utopia, however, that place has a gap between real life, which leads dystopia. In modern society, the meaning of utopia and dystopia is two sides of the same coin. And this is what interests me. So through this work, I aim to consider the modern utopia with social life.
