Singularities
__________________________
Singularities is a series in which I use my photography as a way to express each individual’s personality and uniqueness. Each model in this series took a survey I created made up of questions that give me insight into their life. The questions are personal: relating to not only the things they enjoy, but also how they see themselves both positively and negatively. I use these responses to choose an object that represents that specific individual most authentically, and I incorporate that object into their portrait.
In each photograph, the representational object is floating in front of their face. They are placed and manipulated in such a way to imply the significance of the object while portraying the history and personality of each individual. The objects are metaphoric — each person’s face gives them distinctness, but the items in the photographs do this job instead. They are meant to represent each person’s singularity.
