The Malamulo Medical Clinic focuses on the concept of holistic healing through the balance of building and landscape by embracing nature and reconnecting people with the use of healing gardens and gathering spaces.  In Malawi, water is a precious resource and should be celebrated.  The landscape of the site directs the majority of water on site to a central swale, which slows the water down during the rainy season, but also serves as a way to connect to nature improving the healing process.  The roofs of the buildings respond to the central swale and are angled to direct water downhill to storage cisterns. Based on research, the medical clinic has a strong focus on the use of healing gardens tailored towards the individual and gathering spaces that help reconnect people.  These spaces focus on the close relationship with nature and embracing it to evoke rhythms that energize the body and helps a person rediscover the connection between mind and body; creating a holistic healing experience.
