Semestral work of 2nd Semester 2014

an interactive sound instalation
As you walk trough the hallway you can hear this low frequency "humm" from opened doors you approach. They lead to a completely dark room. Upon entering without a sense of sight, the place starts loudly communicating with you. It notices your presence. If you have the interest to continue and the courage of entering the unknown, the sound shifts it's frequency as you step more forward. It keeps constantly changing based on your movement and position, it almost feels like an confrontation with different being. Without ability to see anything, it creates self-challenging space, leaving different sorts of immpresions on audiance. For some scary, for others mystical or even meditative.

A simple game of motion-tracked sound warping, installed in an effective overwhelming way. It lets the spectator to be literally inside the sound piece, providing pure focus on the audio experience, without disruptive elements, apart from space orientation. As it depends on anyone who enters, how will he/she spend his/her time in there, every ecounter lefts unique audio outcome from unique confrontation.
This video simulation serves just as an example of one's possible approach and the sound reaction.
It is impossible to fully document the experience of confronting this site-specific project.
Technical background:
Cubical blackroom about 3x3 meters, made out of wood/plywood, connected directly on doors of original room in the bulding,
black enterable curtain right behind the doors, providing absolute dark,
arduino, infra-red motion detector (able to measure distance), computer, 2 speakers.
Software: Pure-data - sound is being generated live
(since the material of the room and quite low-frequency nature of the sound, the whole room fairly vibrates when active)
