The project aims at changing the way users engage with the content
accessed on YouTube, destabilizing what is called the “habituated
perception”. The artefact, consisting of 5 screens, is designed to originate
provocative aural and visual experiences and unexpected emotional reactions
through techniques such as de-familiarization and cognitive dissonance.
The sequence of monitors takes to an exaggerated level the influence
of advertisements and automatic playback features on the viewing experience
and on the content accessed. The row of screens renders the complex
flow of images and sounds we expose ourselves to during increasingly
longer average viewing sessions, while the low resolution and the imperfect
synchronization of the five monitors become strategies to de-familiarize
the audience.
