Daowai District of Harbin
There are many building blocks waiting to be dismantled in Daowai District of Harbin, Due to Chinese government’s implementation of urban planning, many former residents were forced to leave. But some who refuse to move hold on to their old way of living in their isolated and dilapidated house, waiting for their destiny. I can never imagine how they survive the freezing cold in such living conditions!
Most buildings in this area were built around A.D. 1900. The construction of Middle East Railway attracted more than 200 thousand people from over 30 countries such as Russia, Poland, Czech, and some Jewish countries to come to Harbin, which accounted for the large diversity of European architectures in Harbin and made it an important town for business. Daowai District has the largest baroque architecture complex in China. The facades of these buildings are of western style, but the enclosures walled in by them are typical Chinese yards where traditional group living of the Chinese is preserved. The buildings that have been torn down carry great historical value.
由於中國政府推行都市計畫的因素，在哈爾濱的道外區有許多將被拆除的建築群，住在此區多年的居民們被迫紛紛離去，留下部分不願離去的居民們，他們依舊過著原本的生活等待命運的安排，即便他們的房子已經殘破不堪、鄰房已被拆除，無法想像在此的居民是如何度過冬季的氣候。
道外區的建築大多建於西元1900年前後，隨著中東鐵路的建設，哈爾濱吸引了俄羅斯、波蘭、捷克、猶太等30多個國家的20多萬僑民來到哈爾濱，也成就了當地的歐式建築藝術的多樣性及商業貿易重鎮，道外區是世界上最大的中華巴洛克建築群，這些建築的立面具有西洋建築的美學，而每一區的建築群圍繞出中式的院落，依然是中國典型的社群生活方式，被拆除的都是具有歷史價值的建築群。
