Rogan Beast Hunter

Rogan, Sword Play
Rogan. Once a wanted criminal by the mighty Roman Church, he is now a retired assassin, instead turning his skills to hunting down the supernatural creatures which infest the realm. For the right price, there is no bounty he’ll turn down.
Growing up in the village of Nebhorim with his mother and father, Rogan helped at his father’s local business as the local blacksmith, where he learned from a young age how to handle the bellows and anvil. His parents weren’t wealthy, but they weren’t rich either, and Rogan was blessed at least with a comfortable home and plenty to eat with his father’s income. The Church’s military needs enabled them to make enough money to get by, although Rogan pitied the other, not so lucky inhabitants in his village. He saw poverty, and he wanted to help them.
His life however turned ugly at the age of ten, when he was taken captive by a group of slavers known as the Cairii, a life-long enemy of the Church. Taken far away to the Black Isles, Rogan was sold to a hunting guild, where he was beaten and starved, forced into hard labour for four years. During that time, Rogan lived for the day he would return home, his parents keeping him going while harbouring a savage hatred for the evil men who took him captive. At the age of fourteen, he befriended a fellow slave called Krousis, a member of the Night Tears assassination guild. The two broke out of the slave camp and fled. Krousis offered Rogan a job in the company but Rogan refused, at first. But upon return to his family, he learned his parents had sold him to the slavers and had left the village. Stirred up with hatred and abandonment, he took up the offer of the Night Tears.
For twenty years he served with the assassin’s core, becoming a notorious enemy of the Church (whom he blamed for his capture, as part of his warped psyche) and learning many deadly combat arts, but his life turned round in a contract gone horribly wrong. Contracted to kill a cleric of the Church, Rogan was ambushed by a savage wolf. He killed the beast, but the wolf bite had infected him. Desperately wounded, Rogan was rescued by the very man he was contracted to kill. Over time, the cleric was able to treat him, but was unable to cure him completely. The attack had shaken him, and Rogan saw through a wolf’s eyes, seeing the truth. The cleric was a hard-done man, who had lost his entire family to attacks by the undead. Humbled by his experience, Rogan didn’t carry out the assassination, and announced his retirement from the guild not long after. His contacts inside the Night Tears helped keep him alive from angry members.
With his wealth, Rogan remembered all his past skills as a smith. Wanting to give back to the world and living out his days, he built himself a little plot on the outskirts of a village, building up a blacksmith business and keeping to himself. However, news of his conquests spread and many came to him with contracts to hunt down demonic creatures. A few months before his forty-third birthday, he inherited a stable. His wolf senses give him an advantage above most self-confessed “beast hunters”, but he has never forgotten his hate for slavers, and goes out of his way to kill any who stand in his way.
