Portrero Hill Observation Stairway

This project aimed to explore the volumes produced by certain boolean conditions ultimately "carving out" the theoretical mass which was produced by the site's dimensions. The building site was no wider than 15' and 70' deep with a maximum height of 30'. Programmatic requirements included.viewing platforms and access to the top floor. Two entrances were needed for this slim structure, one from the street and one from the hill, north of the site.
This project's voids were produced from rectangular extrusions penetrating different moments of the solid mass as they rotated around a shared center.
Hatched areas show the shared volumes of the circulation and the rectangular extrusions.
The "double negative" above (a solid lodged within a solid) occurs when the void carved out by the circulation re-enters a space already voided out.
An enclosed viewing platform facing north.
The "double negative" solid is represented as the L shape in the left section.
