This brief called for creating an extensive range of practical special effects and assembling them together to create a finished audio-visual piece.
This piece was influenced by seeing live bands who use a video projection as part of the backdrop for live performances.

The music is 'The Prison' by Tomas Dvorak. It is an ambient piece with musique concrete elements.
I looked to organic and man-made objects for the piece to match the acoustic and electronic pieces in the music. This video is an attempt to visualise sound.

Sheet of greaseproof paper was laid on the amp speaker. Ink was dropped over the page. The sound waves of the bass playing made the ink jump and splatter about.
Lights from mobile phones were waved around in a darkened room. A threshold was applied to them. The footage was then duplicated several times and arranged until it resembled a circle.
Layers and layers and layers in After Effects.
The light reflected off the tin lid as I rolled marbles along. This is one composition consisting of three different shots before applying the other visual effects.
