Vermeer - Style Of - "girl with Fred Perry cap"

Here are two variants of my final image created in the style of Johannes Vermeer. The first image was to me, my completed photograph and ready to print. However as you can see there is a lot more dead space within the left side of the image. not only that but the highlights and shadows are losing that much detail that the model, being the primary focal point is slowly fading into the background. I was not happy with this effect as I did not want a clear outline, yet i did not want to lose important detail. This lead me to increasing the highlights and experimenting with the sliders to find the perfect level that would highlight the detail, and still have the model slightly outlined from the background. so much so that it offers a lot more smooth quality to the image.

The second image is my final choice, and once printed, still holds every little aspect of detail upon the cap, hair and jumper; steering away from the blending background with foreground effect. The model is just highlighted enough so that it keeps within this smooth tonality, yet keeping that contrast with the fairy harsh, yet low key, lighting method. Overall I am quite pleased with the outcome of the image ad feel as though I have accomplished to the closest possibility of what I set out and planned ahead for. I think it is important to keep the model in the same position, with the same body language and facial expression; yet changing the clothing quite dramatically to add a modern day twist. I feel as though it certainly keeps in trend with Vermeer's painting - "Girl with a Pearl Earring " . However, by replacing the earring with more hair and a cap really modernises this image, but i still think that it shows an initial impression of what it is similar like, being Vermeer's painting.
