Reflection:
This workshop crammed so much great information into the four days thats its hard to summarize all the techniques and tips that we learned over the course of it. First I do want to mention that it was wonderful to be able to work with the acting students on our projects, they brought a lot of knowledge to the table that helped make the experience more enjoyable. The auditions for our animation was definitely a different experience because we were asking the actors/actresses to show broad gestures displaying specific emotions. We needed the overall action for reference which is a difficult task to ask for in under a minute. I found that using specific examples worked a lot better then just asking for the emotion. I started with telling them to be joyful like a child who just got a puppy for christmas, and then told them to be sad like the puppy you just got was squashed by grandmas butt (to keep the atmosphere light). It was nice to hear that auditions, though necessary, is awkward for both parties even at a professional level.
