WINDOW INSTALLATION
Colored Paper
This artwork is a conceptual design from a combination of opaque, translucent, and transparent materials. However, the only material used in this project is paper. It is a challenge to modify those papers into a translucent and transparent material as the main physical quality of paper is opaque. Therefore, I determined the differences between those physical qualities by showing how much light can go through from an object. I used light and shadow as substances for interpreting the combination of three physical qualities. Moreover, I chose color papers to represent a gradation of colors, from dark to light, to enhance the transformation from opaque to transparent. I challenge myself to be able to transform a common material, which in this case is paper into a piece of artwork that shows opacity, translucency, and transparency. Hence, I wanted to keep the main idea simple by cutting the paper into a 3D geometric form but also showing the translucency and transparency of the materials when it is installed in the window.
