中国剪纸分布很广，全国各个地区都有风格各异的剪纸。北方剪纸多以剪为主，风格丰满敦厚、粗犷豪放、简练夸张，常用于张贴，保持着非常典型的传统色彩。而南方剪纸多以刻凿为主，风格细致入微、迁徙俏丽、生动形象，注意表现事物的细节和真实感，具有强烈的装饰性和工艺性，常用于刺绣花样。
