Birds By the Sea – and other Birds Illustrations
I love watching birds. The »Birds by the North Sea« will be printed on the interface of an audio installation in a science center. Visitors identify birds on display by the illustration and then press a button to hear their calls.
The birds are drawn as vector illustrations in a rough and sketchy style. Their posture meets the posture of the stuffed birds on display, so people can better identify them.
There are some other brds I always wanted to draw so I will add a bird every now and then when I find the time to draw another one. New birds will be added at the bottom of the page.

Austernfischer – Eurasian oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus)
One of those came to spend summer each year atop the post office in my Hamburg neighbourhood.

Steinwälzer – Ruddy turnstone (Arenaria interpres)
Großer Brachvogel – Eurasian curlew (Numenius arquata)
Silbermöwe – European herring gull (Larus argentatus)
Uferschnepfe – Black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa)
Sturmmöwe – Common gull (Larus canus)
Rotschenkel – Common redshank (Tringa totanus)
Lachmöwe – Black-headed gull (Larus ridibundus)
Säbelschnäbler – Pied avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta)
Kiebitz – Northern lapwing (Vanellus vanellus)
The following illustrations don't belong to the series of North Sea birds.
Papageitaucher – Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica)
Eisvogel – Common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis)
Gelbbrustara – Blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna)
Kolkrabe – Common raven (Corvus corax)
Rotkehlchen – European Robin (Erithacus rubecula)
Buntspecht – Great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)
