Corporate Gifting Idea (2014)
I was given the opportunity to design a gift for international design researchers which were attending a design conference in Brisbane in 2015. I was given a week to innovate and physically create a prototype. In the end, i decided to represent Australia and Brisbane with a Coaster design. 'Coaster' was used as a metaphor for 'coastal surroundings', as Australia is. The particular event i was covering for was 'Design and Emotion', emotion to me is having memories, and what a better way. Whilst drinking a cup of tea or coffee you may use the coaster, spill a drink or too on it and remember that you went to AUSTRALIA. Coffee or Tea spilling on the coaster is also the emotional effect of Australia being free also. So in the end, yes it was an Australian Coaster. I had access to a laser cutter and CorelDraw, which allowed me to successfully CAD the design up, and laser MDF and perspex. I tried many ideas, and through thorough consultation with a judge from the judging panel, we decided the best aesthetically pleasing one was the one shown to you in the image on the right side. This was discussed among many of the panelists and i was awarded for my outstanding design process. Many of the prototypes are displayed in the Queensland University of Technology design lab.
