Tailgate Park
Lincoln
The site, located under the main road entering downtown Lincoln and across the street from the Nebraska football stadium, is currently a parking lot serving the university. Its location on the outskirts of campus leaves the parking lot as a very inactive space most of the time, except for game day.

On any given weekend in the fall, the parking lot turns into a highly desirable and incredibly active event space for tailgating. Filled mostly with RV's and large vehicles of high rolling boosters and their parties, the compact efficiency of the lot's daily use is erased in a first come, stake your spot free for all. The space however highly active and creatively used, always has the look of clutter about it, with people trying to find an open space to toss a football or frisbee without running into the neighbors rv or grill.

The opportunity to reinvent a parking lot as an event space opened the possibility for landscape to be a part of the design. The landscape serves as a buffer between parties and a space for football, frisbee and other tailgate activities to occur. The parking lot is a weaving of cul-de-sac like parking arrangements to aid the clustering of parties that occur on gameday. The lot also serves as a link between the university and its baseball complex.
