august wilson monologue competition
Every year, Center Theatre Group hosts the regional semi-final of the national August Wilson Monologue Competition. A dozen local high school juniors and seniors get the chance to connect in a very personal way with the powerful words and emotions of the acclaimed playwright by performing monologues from his Century Cycle of plays on the stage of the famed Mark Taper Forum. This year, we chose to communicate that power and emotion by focusing on the power behind the words themselves. A minimal, bold color palette, dynamic, emotional photography and hand-written bits of Wilson's words were used to communicate that feeling of finding personal power and connection to art and sharing that passion with the world.
