The book cover redesign for this modern novel takes a new darker look into this masterpiece by Christopher Davis. The rough nature of war intertwined with poverty can push the limits of teens trying to get by. A bullet case made from the stenciled book title and authors name on the front cover represents the bullet that set the story in motion for Van and Royal West's battle with morality. The "O" with the title can also been seen as the bottom of a bullet that could be awaiting the fate of Van or Royal. Prison stripes can be made from the spine of the books is constant reminder of the punishment the brothers are trying to seek for the killing that they seemed to have gotten away with.
