Paul Gunby's profile

Sony Entertainment Network

As a senior designer at Sony Entertainment Network for 4 years, my daily responsibilities included art direction, design, production, UI and UX design of a multitude of projects. I was also staff music producer, team video editor, and special-event producer.
To boost team efficiency, I developed a process using Javascripts from within Photoshop actions, which allowed us to increase our effectiveness and automate tens of thousands of image changes per day.
I was consultant to the senior executives on special design projects and events, and consulted with US and Tokyo management on creating more diverse algorithms for the automated radio stations on the Sony music service.
I helped refine the design of the Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited interface, which began as the Playstation Store, and finally morphed into the Sony Entertainment Network, a fully connected streaming ecosystem.
I Designed and Art Directed dozens of featured movie collections and special promotions.
This included marketing materials for foreign language markets.
My team launched the network in many new markets, including the EU, Asia, and below... Canada. Each new market required adding and changing thousands of content items, along with promotional and informational communications.
Below is an example of a virtual billboard, which would appear during gameplay on the Playstation. We created and tested 10 new titles per week.
Much of our entertainment content came with flattened, vertical keyart, which we would reconstruct in Photoshop to rebuild new horizontal digital key art, and promotions. Some content such as the Comedy Central Live Special below would request us to build original product keyart.
Our prime real estate, like the homepage of the Playstation Network, would get millions of hits per month and feature blockbuster art, like these pieces I created for Sherlock Holmes, and The Dark Night.
The following are examples of User Interface designs I directed, created, refined and designed for Sony.
Including; Crackle Free Streaming network, Video and Music Unlimited, The Playstation Store, and a comprehensive Sony Entertainment Network redesign, which featured Games, Video and Music in the same store for the first time.
