Encryption
For my motion graphics course at Swinburne, we were tasked with creating a short "how it works" film to explain a topic in 1 minute or less.

My motion graphics piece aims to explain the complex concept of encryption in a way that's engaging, fun and easy to comprehend.

My goal was to explain my topic using only sound and animation - eschewing the use of explanatory text for a purely visual approach.

We had to plan and create all the visual material from scratch, concepting each individual scene through storyboards, animatics and style frames.

I went through multiple iterations of this process, consulting with my tutor and classmates to figure out which ideas worked both conceptually and narratively.

I turned special attention towards the transitions for each scene, ensuring that jumping from one part of the animation to the next always felt intuitive and natural.

The style frames and visual elements were designed in Illustrator, and the animation itself was developed using After Effects and Cinema 4D. Scoring and sound design was completed with GarageBand and public domain sound effects, with voiceover by talented local artist Stuart Anderson.

I wrote, animated and created the sound design for this piece in a few short weeks.
