STD rates have gone up by three digits percent since the introduction of hook up apps like Tinder, Grindr and OkCupid.​ That presents a problem for the New York City Department of Health.

Because people are ashamed and embarrassed to tell their sexual partners they caught an STD, their sexual partners spread it without even knowing they have it.

NYC Health Update is an in-app feature that allows users to tag their sexual partners after the act. If they catch something, they can activate the feature which will send an anonymous message to the partners they tagged, so they won't know who sent it but will be informed they may have been exposed to an STD so they can treat it.
