Spill The Beans
A turn of phrase.

In a modern context, to ‘spill the beans’ is to divulge a hidden truth. Whereas, in old English the term ‘spillan’ meant to spill blood, kill or destroy something of value. With the intent to restore the original connotations of this phrase I have selected three classic stories from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and revealed the plot of the narrative over the text, thus destroying the story.

The project is a response to the way in which information is treated in modern society. A reflection of how the boundaries between public and private information have come to collide through gossip, tabloid and social media.

The final piece is a series of three A1 posters each with the full text of each story digitally printed at a readable size. The plot has been silk-screen printed over the top in a blood-red ink. Alongside each poster I have designed a corresponding book jacket, which also reveals the plot.
