Buurt&Zo App Design

For a group project we were assigned an actual organisation: Buurtwerk.

This is an organisation active in the Netherlands, more specifically the cities Rotterdam and Zoetermeer. The organisation is focused on keeping track of all the youth in these cities and their well-being and potential problems. They offer help in the form of support, such as offering them a safe environment and help keeping them off the streets by organizing activities and helping them get a job.

They're currently using an excel form which they have to print out and take with them to document their findings. As this method is incredibly outdated, we were asked to conduct research and create an app prototype.

Task:  Create an app prototype based on the findings from extensive research on the target group

My role: I was involved in all processes. I conducted desk-research as well as field-research (interviewing the target group) as well as collaborated on the design of the prototype.

Used skills: Photoshop, Marvel APP, field-research (interviewing), desk-research and card sorting

As mentioned above, the entire process started with conducting interviews, as well as researching the target group and current trends. It was tricky, because aside from people from the organisation, they also intended for the youth they were helping to use the app. This added an extra difficulty to designing the app as we had to make sure it was appealing to them to use.

We found out during interviews that all of them were mostly interested in the organisation's activities and figured that, to get them to use the app, we should include this without it taking away from the other functionalities. We created two persona's for both the target groups at the end of the research process.
At the end of the researching period, we presented three different concepts in the shape of a moodboard to the organisation, out of which they chose one and gave feedback on the others.

Fast forwarding to the designing process, we created two customer journey maps. Once again, one for each target group.
Followed by flowcharts and sitemaps. We created one very elaborate sitemap as result:
As well as a style guide to introduce the style we were going for in the design of the app prototype.
We ended up creating 64 different screens. I'll show a few of them, for the rest I'd like to redirect you to our marvel project page: https://marvelapp.com/2hcdf87.

The inspiration we used for various screens in the prototype came from Awesomekit, created by Awesome Studio
In the final presentation of the prototype. We created various promotional material, such as a poster, flyer and video. The flyer and video can be seen below:
We were given a 9,3 (out of 10) for the entire project.

Also, a minor update. Me and my groupmates won the Innovation Prize of the SWK Group with our concept "Buurt & Zo"
