The picture of Hector Pieterson was taken soon after he was shot during the activism undertaken by the brave students who took a stand against the Apartheid government laws and education policies. The iconic image represents a tragic but important day in our nation’s journey to democracy. BRFC felt that there existed an opportunity to “reposition” the immortalised image to highlight that the sacrifice the students of 1976 made, created the equal opportunity for all South Africans to enjoy their right to education.
