    "Where is that?" "That's your kitchen, Concha." "My kitchen? It looks like a hollywood movie kitchen." While visiting my finace's mother's home in south Texas, I had a lot of time on my hands. I found myself discovering new things in every room every time I looked around. This is the house he grew up in. I remembered the house I grew up in, that has recently been moved out of. Its a good thing for my parents to leave but I also miss the little things, like how certain areas were decorated and for some reason never really changed even when we rearranged the room. The holes in the wall in one area where a smoke detector used to be but got moved and never was filled in because it was wood and, well, raising five kids can be a distraction. Her excitement about the kitchen photo fueled a weekend-long project documenting everything in her home that she carefully curated over the course of 50 years. Much of it she'd forgotten about because it was there for so long. It all brought her joy. I found joy in being able to move her to feel proud of her home, her pride for so long. Read Less
