Inktober 2016 – Lettering & Illustration

INKTOBER 2016
 LETTERING & ILLUSTRATIONS
The What
This project marks the start of a new season of design. The timing was perfect and what better way to set off than by joining the Inktober challenge 2016.

The Journey represents the beginnings of my new focus – taking on typographic illustration!

Why?
I was producing work that I enjoyed doing but lacked any messaging and connection with my audience. I’m aiming to utilise type and illustration to connect and build community around my work. The journey to a successful creative career is no smooth ride, so I’m here to share my experiences, what I’ve learned and teach what I know.

The Result?
Consistent output of work, greater engagement on my socials, developing an illustration and lettering process
Action Phrases
I designed custom lettering pieces of key skills that have contributed to my growth this year. I limited the number of words for a punchy and concise effect.
You're not at the level you want to be. So keep learning.
Focus on doing things. Focus on the right things. Stay focused.
Be disciplined. Set a schedule, commit and eliminate distractions.
You will always find an excuse to not do something. Tell yourself, there is no excuse to do this thing right now.
Not a perfect design but don't let perfectionism cause you to not share your work!
What have you done today that's moving you forward towards your goals? If the answer is "nothing" — Take Action Now
Add tangibility to your words by showing what you will do and what you're working on.
Never downplay what you have to offer. Your story is unique and someone will find what you're sharing valuable
This two letter word has been the key to creating more time to do things I love. Learn to say "No" more often.
So many inconsistencies, contrast and letterforms need adjusting. But having gone through the process, it's a step in the right direction
No matter how overused the word is, you can't deny there is no other route to being successful
Game Characters
Half way through the month I decided to switch up the series by inking my favourite gaming characters growing up. The intention – to engage with people who share similar love for game characters and send my audience on a nostalgic journey.
Awesome!
The biggest takeaway from this series – 90% perfect. Don't worry about your illustration piece being "not you best". Each piece is forward progress, embrace that and continue creating.
