PUZZLE 90 Apartment by RYNTOVT DESIGN STUDIO
The ideal spatial solution is absolutely possible even when dealing with an extremely strange layout and a small area. This is professionally proved by PUZZLE 90 project – a 90 square-meter apartment in a newly-built house with ridiculous sharp bends and corners. The design is performed in such a fine and elaborate way that all the elements and solutions seem to fit each other as precisely as in a perfect jigsaw puzzle.
The elongated space was radically modified in order to fit all the necessary spaces in this relatively small area, such as an open living room with a kitchen, a master-bedroom, a bathroom, children’s room and a walk-in wardrobe which has an area equal to that of the children’s room. As a result of these changes in the general layout, most of the sharp bends are now located in the kitchen/living room. All the “unwanted” corners and surfaces were skillfully smoothed out and disguised.
Thus, the windows are decorated in an unusual fashion: the biggest opening is draped with natural fabric, whereas the other two on each side are covered with white wooden shutters in such a way that they are visually perceived as the continuation of the walls. The polygonal open space is divided into two equal parts by a wooden bar stand with white stones that look like boulders from the sea coast. This division marks two equally important zones – the kitchen/dining room and the living room. Right in the corner of the angular living room, parallel to the bar stand there is a unique cantilever TV panel, which seems to grow out of the wall, logically creating a new surface (like most objects in the apartment, the panel was produced by Ryntovt Design workshop).
As for the dining room, the parallel line here is maintained by the custom made dining table. The stools around the table and those next to the bar stand were also specially produced for the project, as no standard model would ever fit into this tiny space. However, everything is ergonomic up to the tiniest millimeter. The suspended kitchen set is in keeping with the general atmosphere of spaciousness. Absence of the usual plinth makes the whole structure look weightless. The floating effect is emphasized by the diode lighting from beneath and the snow-white color of the cabinets.
