Aura Art Residency

Aura Art Residency
#visualart #residency #painting

I was selected for the Aura Art Residency at Chandigarh, India, along with 12 highly talented and some very experienced artists from all over India. This was my first art residency and I believe I was one of the least experienced among all.

Over the course of 9 days, we ate, slept and worked together. The best part of the residency was the opportunity to observe talented artists closely and learn from their processes. It was a very inspiring, encouraging and uplifting learning experience for me.

These paintings are inspired by my experiences during the residency.
They are all Oil and Acrylic on canvas.

The Entrance
'The Entrance' | 18 x 24 inches | Acrylic on canvas
Aura Art was my first art residency. The residency to me was an 'Entrance' to the art world. Where I felt all the excitement, passion and fire within, I also felt held, contained and rooted somewhere, just peeking at 'The Entrance' for the moment. This painting is about the initial phase when i am yet to let the experience of 'being selected for the residency' sink in.

'Chaukhat' (The threshold at the entrance of Indian homes)
'Chaukhat' | 24 x 30 inches | Acrylics on Canvas

The mixed feelings just before crossing the line. Should I or should I not? I do want to, but I don't know what awaits. 'Chaukhat' (the threshold at the entrance of Indian homes) is about that moment just before crossing a line, just before making an important decision. The thrill before jumping into the unknown.

The other side
'The other side' | 20 x 20 inches | Acrylics on Canvas
When there is a lot going on in head, and not much understandings of things to decide on. When the road looks hazy and you don't have enough knowledge of the situation to decide what exactly to do, and there is no sense of win or loss or anything else. In the chaos of the pile of thoughts, there comes a window - wishfully creating a glimpse of 'the other side'.

Realms
'Realms' | 18 x 24 inches | Acrylic on Canvas
The promise of life and abundance from the other side, seemingly the lit up realm, flows into this side, another realm where it might be dark and might be rough, rouge but flourishing with life already. 'Realms' is about the comfort-zone and the world out there - the interflow of the abundance and the longing towards the horizon.

Where to?
'Where to?' | 18 x 24 inches | Acrylics on Canvas
When there is a lot going on in and around - a strange beauty emerges from the apparent chaos. 'Where to' is about that beauty in the chaos - the invigorating awareness of being alive - when in motion.
