Eames House of Cards Set
Bitter Strawberries is an exploration into the xenophobia and patriotism felt in America during the Cold War Era. Plath explores themes of sadness and regret that are caused through the cold remorseless act of warfare. Parallels can be drawn between the poetic images of stinging horseflies to bomber airplanes. Just as an allusion to the bitter effects of war is created through her description of the bitter strawberries themselves.  The thoughtless snapping of strawberries on the vine illustrates the callous taking of another’s life through war.

This set of cards is a graphic representation of the themes explored in Plath's poem. Each card was constructed as a digital collage of various materials: scanned paper texture, photography, found pattern, and vector graphics.  Sickly, saturated color tones and the juxtaposition of innocent and chaotic imagery unsettles the viewer and depicts the destruction of innocence through war.
