The Singapore Youth Award (SYA) was instituted in 1975 and known as the National Youth Service Award until it was renamed in 1993. Into its 37th year, the annual SYA is the highest national youth accolade that recognises Singaporeans who have excelled in their fields of endeavour and contributed significantly to the community.
The Singapore Youth Award (SYA) Logo

A national-level design competition was organised at the formation of the Award in 1975 and the current SYA logo was adjudged the winning entry.

The letter "Y" formed by four arms extending upwards represents Youth. They are also symbolic of the four main races of multi-racial Singapore. It shows the four races working in unison, contributing towards youth leadership and development in the five categories of the Award - Arts & Culture, Community &Youth Services, Entrepreneurship, Science & Technology and Sports & Adventure.

The disc at the apex of the logo represents the common goal they work towards and also the disciplined minds of the youth.
