Helmut Newton is the client for this monumental hotel next to the Sony Centre in Berlin. Drawing on the imagery of the SLR camera and its working parts, hotel rooms became felxible spaces that could be used both as a room and a studio. These needed to be of varying sizes to allow all sorts of customers from students to professionals. As the rooms spiral around the central lens like atrium the height and length of each was multiplied by the root of 2 (how f-stops are created on a camera).
