I was very privaledged to work on this project for a period of almost two years at Pete Boyer Construction. Camp Ihduhapi's Kitchen and Dining Hall building had been remodeled once, since it was built in the early 1900s. We were challenged with bringing it up to code, as well as increasing the volume of people it could serve. Electricity was in the air when the building was finished in 2009, designed to mimic the theme of the Welcome Center building on the same campus. When completed, the new building's exterior was finished in a dark brown stain, consistent with the rest of the camp buildings. Yet, a brand new commercial kitchen -- brimming with potential-- waited to greet campers inside. A new canteen store, conference room, commons area, and bathrooms were also added in the lower level of the Dining Hall building.
The large hallway and Kitchen serving window allow for family-style meals to be transferred from the Kitchen to the Dining Hall, where campers eat together in cabin groups.
The cove lighting surrounding the dining hall adds a candlelit feel to the space where campers gather to connect  and reminisce long days of outdoor activities.
An ADA accessible sink near the bathrooms makes it easy for large groups of campers to wash up before a meal.
Pictured above is the canteen store adjacent to the commons area in the Lower Level. For the flooring, we chose a beautiful green spruce -colored ceramic tile with a non-slip surface.
Pictured above and below, is the addition to the existing dining hall as it was being constructed. The finished space was twice as large as the original dining hall.
