An alternative wandering through the city realities

My extended stay in the city of Hamburg was the main motive to explore the city beyond the visible spectacle and experience it by meeting inhabitants, since I was convinced that the experience of space is kaleidoscopic. The aim of this research is to find and point out those spatial elements that identify the uniqueness and individuality of a city beyond its materiality and its constructions. The main tools were my wandering through the city of Hamburg, my interpersonal relationships with the Hamburger citizens and the mental maps that they constructed in order to revive and re-dwell the space. The places that the city-dwellers pointed out are organized according to three memory parameters: the places of formal memory, these of collective memory and these of individual memory. A collective urban node in the city is introduced through this categorization. This node is also thoroughly examined according to the official scope of this hanseatic city. Moreover, the Hafencity project is explained and mentioned as the unsaid urban node of the city at that time. As a result, questions regarding the relationship between these nodes arise, whether this relationship is stable over time or variable, and finally, how it affects the identity of the city.
