DeMontfort University TV Commercials

Motion Graphics
This project consisits of six 10 second commercials for KDP Productions.
The end client was DeMontfort University.

Each commercial featured an alumni who had reached an exceptional level in their field.
The theme was based around illustrating each alumi's area of exertisethrough the the use of light. For example, with the Jimmy Choo slot hesketches a 3D 'light drawing' of a shoe.

The brief was to create a real sense of interaction between the talent (who are all alumni of the University) and the 'light streams' which create the objects around them.
It was a real challenge to create some of these effects from scratch, and a joy to see them work.

I did all compositing and special effects work in Adobe After Effects.
Trapcode Form and Trapcode Particular were used extensively, along with rotoscoping and grading.

The 3D lines in 'Jimmy Choo' and the globe in 'Waheed Alli' were created by Gary Noden in Maya.
Jimmy Choo.

The 3D lines of light were generated by Gary Noden in Maya.  The challenge was to take the rendered 3D plates and treat them in such a way as to make them feel 'luminous' and 'light'. I feel that the compositing and grading really lifted the 3D render elements up a level.
The extensive layering in 32bpc, and judicial use of glows and grading allowed me to push the light and glows into something quite special.
(I hope!)
Phillipa Berry (Professor of Geomatics).

This was a joy to create, the idea being to create a sense of landscape in light.  Trapcode Form was the answer, using gradients and painted alpha channels, to push the streams of light into shapes resembling hills and valleys.  This is one of my favourites.
Waheed Alli.

The 3D globe was created in Maya by Gary Noden.  He supplied them as several rendered layers.
For me this is another compositing, rotoscoping and grading exercise.
I like the sense of warmth in this piece.
Akram Khan.

This effect in this piece stands out from the others, as it was created entirely in Trapcode 3D stroke.
With some judicial rotoscoping a simple effect works really well.
Parneet Paul.

I was pleased with this piece, in as much as I managed to create a sense of flow, depth and interaction between Parneet and the Trapcode Particular light / water streams.
Andy Gotts.

This piece relied on a simple illustrator file of a picture frame being brought to life, and turned into the entire gallery around Andy Gotts.  I like the life brought to the frames through the use of cycling fractal noise and glowing matte runs.
I hope you enjoyed looking through this project.  Please comment on anything you feel like....
