Teachers of the world

During September 2011 and June 2012 Michael Wagener traveled arround the world and visited different countries in North Africa, Asia, the USA and in the Caribbean Sea. During this time he took portraits of teachers. With his personal background of being not only a photographer , also an art - teacher, he is interested to meet other teachers in different cultures and talk about the motives of teaching. He chose mostly High School Teachers, because in his opinion they have the strongest influence of the development of their young students. He wants to show, who are the people, which are in front of our next generation and take care of their education. In his interviews he asked questions about the way to become a teacher and the motivation of working as a teacher. In this interviews you can explorer the various self – perceptions of the profession Teacher in different cultures and their position in the community . He worked only with a Nikon D 700 and a Carl Zeiss Lens 50mm, which he chosed for the whole trip. He also brought a small flashlight, including a softbox. For him it seems also necessary to take the pictures of the teachers not only in a classroom. Mostly he chose a privat or public place to show the personality of the person and not only the role of the profession. Sometimes it was also necessary to find a privat place to avoid problems with the goverment in countries like Egypt or China.
