Motion Design results from an accumulation of the fraction of times. New meanings of a motion design emerge through association and interaction among diverse integral parts of design itself. As it has been said, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts", Motion Design is an archetypal example of the well-known aforementioned proposition. In this motion design, there are three juxtaposed but not-in-sync motions separated by three screens in this project, the time of which are 3 min, 6min, and 9min, while each motion design consisted of three works. And the motions in the three screens are set in an infinite loop. It implies the process of emerging "Life" in the Eastern cosmology. With regarding the content of the project, we use the first chapter of ‘Tao Te Ching’ as the start point to convey dialectical relationships between ‘natural’ and ‘manmade’, ‘controllability’ and ‘random’, and ‘virtual’ and ‘physical’, through the three-multiply-three motion creation. Due to the time differences among the three motions, the interactive relationship would continue to change among the three screens. Thus, it would always generate new meaning during the displaying process. This would enhance the project’s physical visual power.
This project is created by In Dae Hwang (the first and the third chapter) and Zhihua Duan (the second chapter) for the 2016 China Motion Graphic and Typography Invitation Exhibition.
