Cathedral peaks are designed to direct the eyes of people whose feet are on the ground upward to heaven.  This is a subtle embodiment of a connection between heaven and earth in which the boundary between the two is blurred.  

The peak of a boat's bow points with similar optimism, directing eyes towards a horizon not yet reached.  As an arrow, it links here to there.
 
The process of making these quick paintings was a playful exploration of this similarity.
