'Making the city' is the central theme of the fifth International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR). The continuing urbanisation provides for huge political, social, economic and ecologic challenges. Four Graphic Design students of The Royal Academy of Art The Hague participate - under guidance of KABK teacher Roosje Klap, Francien van Westrenen (Stroom Den Haag) and Huib Haye van der Werf (SKOR). As an assignment by Stroom Den haag and SKOR Duygu Olcek, Ferguut den Boer, Irene Salo and Tom Lugtmeijer made a graphic installation for the Binckhorst area in The Hague. The name of their work group, NOBL_AMAZE NEAL_ONCE, derives from typographic graffiti on a bridge nearby Bink36.
The work group did research about titles, ads and logos in Binckhorst to identify which colours are used in the area. They also have researched typography. Their research to typography, colour and advertisements was combined in the installation that consists of different output: posters, light boxes and the works.
Making the city at the International Architecture Biennale is open for public at the 20th of April . See for more information www.iabr.nl
