Environments welcome participation and offer the space for change through sensory, intellectual and emotional engagement.
By immersing oneself within a space, one becomes aware of the relationship between environment and oneself, drawing awareness to the continuity present in ecological forms of navigation, highlighting the need for respect of that which is often viewed as ‘outside’ and ‘separate’ from the Self.
Through transforming a traditional space into that of an ‘Other like’ environment the opportunity for transporting minds, feelings and attitudes is offered. My intention is that by creating an environment that celebrates Otherness, a sense of reverence might be instilled in the viewer. By engaging with a space composed of many different objects and materials one is able to orientate one self within this ‘picture’ and see the relationships within these networks and how they perhaps also translate into the ‘real world’.
Each individual component of this ecological space carries with it a different purpose and history, collectively caught in suspense for the duration of the exhibition, all playing an equally valuable role in their collaborative composition.
If one is to view the world as integrated it is necessary that one not only respect and value different roles but also be open to change and the importance of participation and how individual choices contribute collectively towards the future.
