IDENTITY
Spring/summer 17 debuts an exciting collaboration with the revered athletic brand, Adidas, whose contemporary vision have led to IDENTITY exploring the recent Athleisure trend through exciting and innovative silhouettes which are oversized and less refined. Inspired by the historic Japanese archery, Kyudo (way of the bow), the capsule collection sets to reflect its symbolic meaning of identity and the significance of the sport to oneself. Key influences of the archery have been embedded within the textiles to embody the spirit of a Kyudoka. This season’s vivid tones are triggered by the lifestyle of the British muse, Berni Yates whose interest in wonderfully bright and cheerful outfits alongside her passion for flamboyancy and explosion of colour have been used as a stimulus for the collection’s colour palette. Persimmon orange, brilliant yellow, Egyptian blue, Blush pink were inspired by the studies of Yates’ desired belongings. Knitwear is at the fore of the collection, with a heavy knee length wrap shirt crafted from chunky yarns and an asymmetric skirt with multi toned striped pleats that mirror that of the Hakama. The look reflects its Yayoi Period inspiration which dates back to 500BC. IDENTITY’S signature prints are known for its bold and brilliant appeal, which this season have taken advantage of. To reflect its bigger silhouettes, abstract shapes are outlined and taken from the Kyudo muneate and transfers the design onto an all-over print which have been enlarged further to drape over shoulders and sleeves showcasing a distorted appearance. Finally, a series of shirts, which play with the ideology of the traditional shirt, revolves around the focal prints, from conceptual floral's to asymmetrical geometric's. The designs are fashioned into traditional embroidery with meticulous beading applique on sheer layered organza, with the prints being stamped onto heavy cottons and linens.
