Illustrations- The North East Indian attire

The following is a series of digital illustrations depicting the traditional attire of the natives of the seven states of North Eastern India, fondly called 'The Seven Sisters'. Although there is great ethnic and religious diversity within the seven states, they bear similarities in the political, social and economic spheres.

Arunachal Pradesh
Largest and geographically the most North Eastern of all the Seven Sisters. Its capital city is Itanagar.
Assam
Assam is well-known for the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Kaziranga National Park, famous for its 
One-horned Rhino. Although Assam’s official capital is Dispur, Guwahati serves as its capital for all practical purposes.
Mizoram
mi = people
zo = hills
ram = land
Mizoram means Land of the People of the Hills. Its capital city is Aizawl.
Meghalaya
With an average rain of 1200cm recorded each year and home to Cherrapunji, the state is the wettest region of India. Its capital is Shillong.
Tripura
At 94.65 %, Tripura is the most literate state of India having surpassed Kerala in 2013. Its capital city is Agartala.
Nagaland
Nagaland is one of the three Christian-majority states in India (the other two being Meghalaya and Mizoram) and the only state where Christians form 90% of the population. Its capital is Kohima.
Manipur
Manipur literally means the land of jewels. Manipuri Dance is the only dance form from the North East to be considered an Indian Classical Dance. Its capital is Imphal.
