Character Animation Unit
Character Animation Unit
In this unit we are learning the fundamentals of creating a fleshed out character, how to express the characters personality through animation, etc.
In this activity we learned how to sketch out body shapes, and different poses. We picked traits and drew sketches to display each trait.
We created a couple different characters based on the traits.
Then we chose a design for a final character and created a character turnaround sheet for them.
We drew them from the front, back, 3/4 view, and side.
Lip Syncing activity

Then, using the character we created, we made it talk.
We either found an audio clip online or recorded our own audio to go along with the animation.

We made our own mouths and eyes that would fit with our character

Then using the assets we created, we made it into a final animation along with the audio clip.
Walk Cycle
For the walk cycle activity we were tasked with creating a very rough movie clip symbol of a simple lower body and legs, that is all. We learned the different key frames of a walkcycle, including; Passing, Contact etc. Taking what we learned we created our initial rough animation.
Using the guide we created, we created a character and made it walk, following the rough animation.
After we finished the animation itself we converted it into a movie clip symbol and created a moving background while the character moves in place, thus creating the illusion of movement.
Bone Tool Activity
As a fun extra activity we learned how to use the bone tool in flash. We took inspiration from the videogame Portal, owned by Valve. Using the idea of "portals" from the game we created a short animation using multiple differet techniques we learned throughout this unit.
