STUBB \ Winner of Innovation \ Pida 2016 \ Sweden

The jury's motive
"Here is a design that replaces two plastic packs and challenges the conventional in a segment of daily importance. And it features double pilfer-proofing. It’s no easy task to persuade a consumer to hang on to a package, but the built-in functionality makes it easier. The ever-important tactile factor is there as well. A razor-sharp design project!"

PIDA, Packaging Impact Design Awards, is an annual packaging competition between students in Sweden, France and Germany. The brief this year was to create premium packaging for electronic products. With sustainability in mind and to make it easier for the consumer, the brief also said to get rid off plastic materials. The solution should focus on interactive communication between the package and the consumer and include new, up and coming techniques.

Our solution to the brief is a tamper proof package for an electronic razor. We wanted to appeal to the modern man with a deep interest in beard and who appreciate a smooth shave. The consumers are trend-sensitive and knows what the it objects and techniques are. They also appreciates genuine craftsmanship and lives a hectic life.

Stubb is a concept based on functionality. When the perforation around the packages is broken an alarm sets off to the register. This makes it difficult to steel and other buyers can easily notice an open package. By letting the cover become the lid, it’s easy for the consumer to keep the razor on a shelf without it gathering dust. To avoid razor blades laying around, Stubbs package allows the consumer to have a refill in the package itself. With a mechanism the package also delivers one blade a time so that the consumer don’t have to touch the blades.

We wanted to achieve a robust but elegant tonality by taking inpiration from nature, an urban lifestyle and the ocean. The pattern used are a graphic representation of stubble, an also reconnects to the name of the brand, Stubb (stubble in Swedish).

The brief also said to include some typ of interactive technology. The scanable icon on the inside of the lid easily takes the users strait to Stubbs webpage where they can get all sorts of tips and tricks.
