Monumentale

"The eclectic typography of Cimitero Monumentale speaks to me most and compels me to document every nuance of every typographic style. The 1930's "fascist" san serifs, Art Nouveau and Art Deco flourishes, 1960's and 1970's hipness, and paragraphs of masterfully chiseled classical serif faces all contently co-exist. This frenzy of design in Monumentale heightens its humanity and it gives the place a heartbeat. It is joyful place to visit." – Carin Goldberg
During my internship at Corraini Edizioni I had the opportunity to work with Carin Goldberg to the realization of this 30 stamps set.The designer was inspired by the variety of styles in Cimitero Monumentale, the most important cemetery in Milan, and decided to represent this diversity selecting 26 letters and 4 symbols from different monuments and gravestones. I took part in the project by reproducing the letters, translating both their thickness and texture in a font.
