In the United States, the world of design is most active in coastal cities such as San Francisco and New York, leaving places in the middle to be nothing but a footnote at the end of a forward to be skimmed andforgotten. The Midwest is overlooked and walled off from the rest of the design world because it is perceived as rural farm towns decades behind the coastal cities. While their farm town roots and lack of major metropolitan development cannot be denied, neither can their propensity to develop good design and produce qualitydesigners. So, the question must not be can anything good come from there? But instead, when will the world recognize Midwestern design?
