Panoramic Cityscapes (2012)
New panoramic cityscapes by photographer Andrew Prokos
These panoramic cityscapes are mixture of film and digital captures. The film is 6x17cm Fuji Velvia chrome film which not only captures an astonishing amount of detail, but also captures the image with a highly saturated color rendition. The camera I use is a Fuji GX617 panoramic camera, which has no electronic parts whatsoever...in other words, you really have to know what you're doing. It's not an easy format to work with, but it allows for very large fine art prints to be made from the chrome. More recently I've been experimenting with using a Nikon D3x to shoot my panoramics. The images are shot in a series at 24.5mp and stitched together. The result is a very high-resolution digital file which can be used to print a very large fine art print. Eventually digital capture may replace the film capture entirely, but they both complement each other nicely and offer very different renditions of color and feeling.
