An art installation by Filippo Cardella & Qian Fang
Skyscrapers have been adopted as the most efficient way to exploit the über-expensive residential zoning area. Contemporary cities develop vertically challenging the sky.
The penthouse becomes a symbol and the relentless demolition and reconstruction wiped off the traditional domestic and public spaces from the city map. The city expansion and the annihilation of the historical context gave us a new life-style whose consequences still need to be fully understood.
Realised during the Beijing Design Week –De-compose is an installation by Filippo Cardella and Qian Fang that explores the massive transformations of Chinese megalopolis during the last decades. Almost 700 images of the traditional Beijing hutong are composed in a new, vertical imaginary building.
